Few beverages are as instantly recognisable as Earl Grey tea.

That man was Charles Grey, 2nd Earl Grey (1764–1845), a British statesman who served as Prime Minister from 1830 to 1834. During his time in office, Grey oversaw the passage of the Great Reform Act of 1832, one of the most significant constitutional reforms in British history, helping to modernise Britain’s electoral system and expand parliamentary representation.
Today, however, his name is known to millions not because of politics, but because of tea.
